6.28.06 - Going Home

Emily prayed to see a bear on our trip, and if you look closely we found one!

The family fishing trip, I wish we could go more often

Looks like a keeper huh, but I let him go, I'll catch him again next time I go home

Sunset at the cabin, it was just so wonderful

We had a great trip up north for the month of June. Unfortunately it was necessitated upon my Grandpa’s funeral service. However, even in the midst of tragedy it still wonderful to be with family.

We spent the first 2 nights at Grandma’s house. It was a little sobering to walk around the old farm and see all the unbelievably many ways that my Grandpa was instrumental in making it look the way it does.

Then on Friday we took off up north to my parent’s house. I can’t even say how great it was to be back home. I think that I’m just much more in my element to be surrounded by nature and open spaces than the clutter and busyness of downtown Dallas. The sun was up by 4:30am each morning, and it set at about 9:30. The weather was just beautiful while we were there.

There was one morning when my dad and I got up early and took off fishing. It was the best morning; mist was rising off of the lake as the sun rose and there was a southern thunderstorm off in the distance, but it was completely sunny where we were, even though we could hear the early morning thunder. We saw and eagle pick a fish right out the water, and a flock of loons land next to the boat. We didn’t catch much, but even the worst day fishing is better than the best back in the rat-race.

We really had a wonderfully relaxing trip, and it meant a lot to just spend some time with family. I think we (universal “we”) get too busy with life that we forget to live. This trip helped remind me that life is about the journey and not the destination, whether that destination is making another buck, climbing the cooperate ladder, or going to Eleuthera. We always need to make time for what really matters, family, friends and fishing!
