8.19.06 - Summer Vacation
Here's what the shed looked like the morning I got on the job site |
This is just hours before I headed to the airport, we sure did get a lot done in a short time |
Me and mom, it was such a wonderful trip home - though I wished Emily could have come too |
If you ask my me or my dad we'll tell you how sore we were after all the work we put in - but it's the good kind of hurt!

Well this past week when summer school finally ended, I headed back home to help my dad build a new shed on our property. It was just the best trip home, though sad because we couldn’t afford two plane tickets so Emily stayed in Dallas getting ready for another year of kindergarten.
Flights were fine, and my plane arrived late at night. The next day we were up early and at the work site. My dad has worked for weeks to get the footers and block all in place. So, I had a personal challenge to get as much done as possible for the 2 days I had at home.
We would have had all four walls up the first day if it had not been for us losing our minds. After so many hours of working in the sun, you begin to loose your ability to think straight. So, we headed home at dark after 14 hours of work with just one wall still on the ground, somehow an inch and a quarter too short!!
Well, the next morning we instantly figured out that I had grabbed the wrong board, and the one with the correct length was lying right next to our grounded wall. Needless to say we ended that day with all walls up and trusses on the way.
I really had such a refreshing trip home, even if it was working nonstop. Thanks to mom and dad for flying me home, and being the best parents anyone could ask for!
