4.7.07 - Camping Trip

Here's like the only picture of all 6 of us, we're all sitting on a rock that fell off the cliff banks

Emily and Suki, they had almost the same sweatshirt on - yeah Packers!

Here we are on our last night cooking camp fire burgers! So fun!

Well it seems that each time we decide to go camping the weather hits record lows. This past week Emily and I along with two other couples from DTS decided to take advantage of our 3 day weekend and head off into the great outdoors for a few days of R&R, and cold windy nights.

We’ve made some great friends during out time here at DTS, and normally on Friday’s we all go feed the homeless in downtown Dallas. But this weekend all of us, (Emily and I, Brandon and Amanda, and Matt and Suki), traveled north near the Oklahoma/Texas border to Eisenhower State Park.

The Eisenhower State Park is noted for being a great park for: picnicking, hiking, biking, nature study, fishing, boating and boat rentals, water skiing, swimming, wildlife observation. Officially, I have to say that we had a great time hiking. All 6 of us took off around the border of the lake, under the cliffs to stake our fortunes on some adventurous hiking. It was a lot of fun, mostly because we got to spend the experience with some great friends.

I also spent about half a day fishing off the piers and land, and I caught nothing – and I still lost 3 lures! But I have to say that even the worst day fishing is better than the best day when you’re stuck in traffic.

We had a campfire each night, and we would tell stories and play games. It was also very special to spend some time reading scripture and reflecting on the death of our Savior since our second night was Good Friday. Suki led us in some songs and Matt related how the Lord had impressed him with the prophetic connection between Psalm 88 and the death of Christ – check it out.

We really did have a wonderful time, but wouldn’t you know it was stinking cold again. However, Emily and I came prepared this time – I think we had something like 8-9 blankets, and our heaviest coats. Yet, Mother Nature gave us a good dose of chilly weather, and our friends were pretty cold. Can you believe it even snowed on our way home; in April in Texas! Yet, warm or cold, sunny or cloudy we had a wonderful time, there’s just something about being away from the demands of our technologically driven society that redirects your mind and energizes your spirit, especially with good friends and Good Friday.
