6.30.08 - Alaska Part 1

What an amazing creation the Lord has made - Alaska is so beautiful! We have been privileged to get to go on a family vacation before we head out to Eleuthera. And it’s also kinda like a practice trip for Micah before we make the big move.

Our friends Jesse and Erica Frederick have lovingly put together a tour trip of Alaska. Jesse and Erica have lived in Alaska their entire married life and they know all the good spots. We flew into Anchorage, which is where they live and Micah did so great on the flights, no problems at all – he’s such a good little traveler.

After 1 day to get settled, we toured downtown Anchorage and had a great time looking at all the tourist shops. We even bought Micah some little mini carhartt overalls, he’s so cute. Then the next day we made the 3hr drive down to the coast to the town of Seward.

Seward is also a bit touristy, but they have some amazing sights. Jesse and Erica set us up with a day cruise around the inlet and we got to see some amazing wildlife, like sea lions, eagles, and a huge whale.

The whale was seriously amazing. You’d watch the surface of the water, just scanning along, constantly looking for them to crest out of the water. Then, there was one that looked like he might get close to our boat and everyone on deck was watching. Suddenly, a lady screamed, because the whale was so close. He blew right next to the hull of the boat and then flipped on his back and swam directly under the front of the boat. I could almost jump on top of him – it was so amazing.

We also got to see a glacier up close, so close you could walk out on it if you wanted to. We took lots of pictures, and we’re going to be up here for another week, so you will have to look for our Alaska Part 2 article coming soon in July.

God’s creation is amazing, and this trip is a very special one for us to share it with our good friends. We totally recommend an Alaska vacation, but you’d better get a guide if you hope to go fishing, because we haven’t caught a thing!
