7.13.08 - Alaska Part 2
If we thought that Alaska was beautiful on the first part of our trip, we were blown away on the second half! Our tour would include Denali and Mt. McKinley, Fairbanks, the far shores of Dot Lake, the north pole, and back though one of the most scenic drives I've even been on.
First we headed up pass Denali National Park and got to see the highest mountain in North America. Also, on our way up we got to stop off at this crazy pizza joint where they were playing bluegrass and you could rock climb on the walls.
We took a tour around Fairbanks on the Fourth of July and got to go to Alaska Land (which is also called Pioneer Park). It was a great time, just like a carnival with different musical groups, including bluegrass bands, folk singers, bag pipes, and a steel drum band!
Then we went up to North Pole and got to see the Santa Shop, and Micah got to meet the real Santa Claus. All of his friends are going to be so jealous someday!
We spent a little time looking around the shop and then it was off to Jesse's old house, though Delta Junction and on to Dot Lake. Except along the way we got a flat tire, which turned into quite an adventure, let me tell you. The reason why is because we had to get the tire fixed and it was a Sunday. Amazingly, we found someone to help us, and we pretty much think God has a little help for us that day!
Once at Dot Lake we put on the hiking packs and headed out on a 4 mile trek though the Alaska wilderness out to Jesse's cabin. It was a long hike, but beautiful. Emily was nervous, but Jesse and I had guns. Also once we were out there we got to see a Lynx come up to the cabin - it was so cool!
Our drive back to Anchorage took us through absolutely beautiful country, with a stop off for dinner and rest at the Sheephead Lodge. Jesse and Erica really went all out to provide us with an astounding trip around the beautiful state of Alaska!
We just have to say a special thanks to them for their patience with us the entire time, and their continual generosity. The Lord couldn't have given me a better roommate for my 5 years at Cedarville. Thanks guys, you've been a huge blessing to us!
