7.03.10 - The 4th of July on the 3rd

The team from Frisco is leaving tomorrow, which is the real 4th of July, so if we were going to have a big party with as many American friends as we could it had to be today on the 3rd.

Each year we have such a fun time celebrating the US Independence Day in the Bahamas. Ever since Emily's and my intern days with Paul and Lisa Voss, we have had a big party in Eleuthera.

This year we had our friends from Frisco TX to celebrate it with us. We started the celebrations off with cooking out on the grill, where all the men were out in the BBQ and sun and the ladies were inside in the cool making it look festive.

Jeff Larson quizzed us on our American history, which was fascinating since he himself is Canadian! I learned that I don't know much about my US Presidents. Soon it was "dinner served" and we all gathered to pray and give thanks.

One fun part of celebrating the 4th of July is including our Bahamian friends in the mix too. Surprising enough the Bahamian Independence Day is on July 10th, and in many places in the Bahamas they're already beginning their celebration.

We had traditional burgers and hotdogs with some yummy cheese cake and strawberry pie for desert. Jeff made sure to notice the Coke a Cola is uniquely American! Then after dinner we played a little tossing of the football just to make sure we were as American as we could be.

Emily loved decorating the house and hanging the flags, Micah tried his best to help, but that didn't rule out the occasional "melt-down." One of the biggest blessings for her was having Melissa Yates here with baby Isaac. Micah and Isaac soon became friends (look for more pictures in our upcoming post about the Frisco Team).

The celebration of our country's freedom is the perfect time to remind ourselves of the truest form of freedom found in the forgiveness of our sins by our loving Savior. May you celebrate your spiritual birthday today as you remember your country's.
