November Newsletter '06

Greetings,

November has been a wonderful month. With the march of the semester pressing upon us both, November has brought the much welcomed occasional break, and as of yesterday the cooler temperatures of winter. Thanksgiving revealed and reminded us of that which is most important as the Flunker Family made it down to Texas. Finally, this month also brought CMA a brand new staff member.

The Lake Cabin

Right about when we felt like we were going to snap from all the pressures of school and work, our small group from church planned a retreat to this beautiful cabin on a lake. One of the couples in our small groups has this amazing little cabin where we got to fish, look at the stars, have a campfire, chop some wood, go for a walk, and let the cares of life drift away like the mist over the water. It was the best and only vacation we’ve had in many months. Although it was only 1.5 nights it was just what we needed to pull us into the safety of Thanksgiving break (or hunting season as my Dad likes to call it). Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving this year was very meaningful as it was the first time my family (Ryan) has come to visit. Each Christmas and Thanksgiving ever since I was a little boy, my family has always been together. So, spending the holiday alone in Dallas would have only reminded me of what I would be missing. However, this TurkeyDay was anything but sad, as the whole family gathered around our little table for a meal that even my Grandma would have been proud of. The time just flew past as we filled our days with football in the DTS lawn, decorating our church worship center, ministering downtown, seeing the sights of Dallas, a wee bit of shopping, and a lot of just being family. We really have so much to be thankful for, and we’re anxiously looking forward to being with Emily’s family for Christmas. CLICK HERE for more pictures.

Eleuthera and CMA Update

Our good friends and co-laborers on staff with CMA, Brad and Alicia Fox had their first baby boy this month. Tristan was delivered November 21 st at 4:52pm at a healthy 8lbs and 6oz. I just talked with Brad and he and Alicia could not be more thrilled to have this new little guy on loan to them for the rest of their lives. He said, “Words can’t even describe what you feel when you hold him in your arms.” Emily and I are so thankful for the Foxes, and that the Lord has blessed them both with a healthy delivery and baby – we know they’ll make awesome parents.

Update
I haven’t heard too much from the mission front, except the previously reported acceptance of Wade Weinberger as the first Bahamian staff member. Wade and his wife Tammy are long time friends of ours and will be serving in the position of Maintenance and Construction Coordinator. Additionally, Emily and I are looking towards planning our next trip to the island over Spring Break in March, so you can be praying with us about that. November has been great and we’re looking forward to the blessings of celebrating Christ’s birth with family in December.

Prayers and Praises
Praise, for the healthy births of two new babies, little Mason Chadwell born to Jamie and Jon on November 24 th, and little Tristan Fox born to Brad and Alicia on November 21 st.
Praise, for some rest and relaxation this month.
Praise, for quick recovery from the brief bouts we’ve had with the cold and other sickness this month.
Praise, for continued blessing and provision from the Lord as we work towards becoming debt free.
Praise, that we got to spend Thanksgiving with family.

Pray for CMA Missionaries Carl and Kathy Most as they serve in Nicaragua under a new political leader, and need our prayers as they may face opposition.
My darn ankles are still bothering me and hurting, please pray for healing.
Pray for me as I have an enormous amount of work to finish off the semester and multiple Christmas events to coordinate at church all at the same time.
Pray for the Chadwells and Foxes as they begin the new adventure of parenthood.
Pray for the homeless in Dallas as the temperature has now dropped below freezing, and pray for our enablement and effectiveness as we serve in this ministry.
Finally, please pray for safety in our travels as we head up north to spend Christmas with the Pfeisters. We will have a layover in St. Louis and inclement weather during Christmas travels always makes me a bit uneasy.
