We just finished a week with a team from the middle of the midwest, in the heart of the American breadbasket, the Kansas, Pretty Prairie Team! This youth team was made up of kids who are either finishing high school or starting college, and they all have either worked in the wheat fields or in some extension of agriculture for most of their lives. Which means, they are very hard workers.
For a team of kids under the age of 20, they got a ton of work done. Their trip was, as most are, filled with construction projects as well as some kind of ministry outreach. However, this team split up those responsibilities between the girls and the guys: the girls ran a VBS up until noon at the local church, and the guys worked on the grounds on a variety of project.
Originally, they invested their money to repair our new porch roof. But this job was quickly turning into one which would only require 1 day. With this many guys all working this hard, they would need more jobs. So, the next project was to continue and perhaps finish the snack shop renovation; which they nearly completed. Their construction guru Steve worked to build brand new countertops and appliance tables for the new snack shop.
While he worked with a handful of the guys on this skilled labor, the rest diligently worked on a paint crew and a road construction repair crew. They all accomplished more than I thought they could, and I was amazed at their service.
With plenty of time for jumping off cliffs, swimming, and on their last day touring the island, we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know this team from Kansas. They come from the home church of our partner missionaries here at the school, and its easy to see the blessing that supporting and sending churches are to missionaries. We welcome you back as soon as possible Pretty Prairie!
