Aunt Kari’s Visit

Today was about the worst day ever for Micah. His Aunt Rere (Kari) has to, as he says it, “go back up into the sky.” We’ve just dropped her off at the airport after a too short visit this past week. Even as we were driving to the airport, Micah began pleading with Kari, “Please, please, please don’t go.” It just about broke your heart!

But up until today, it had been wonderful. Kari is the first family member to see our new house, and this trip makes it her 5th visit, more than anyone else, so she surely wins the favorite family member award!

Being a veteran somewhat to the island, Kari didn’t care to do much sightseeing or touring. Even swimming was a bonus. She primarily came down to just be with us and most especially to play with Micah. Which we all took full advantage of – Micah constantly asking, “Rere, you said you’d play with me?”

Her trip turned out to be just a great visit, although we were feeling pretty bad about her trip early on as Tropical Storm “Emily” was bearing down on the Bahamas. Thankfully, after hitting some of the larger landmasses in the Caribbean, “Emily” was downgraded to a Tropical Wave, and we had almost perfect weather, except 1 cloudy gloomy day.

We had so much fun with Kari: playing basketball, swimming, watching TV, and even going out to eat once. And she is such a good sport: sleeping on the floor and not complaining at all.

When we got to the airport, Micah was just so mad at Kari for leaving. He wouldn’t even look at her, much less hug her goodbye. Then once the plane was boarding, and we began walking out, he turned around and ran to her before she could walk out the door and gave her a big long hug. It was just the most precious. Kari is certainly Micah’s best friend, and we’re so glad she could give up some of her vacation time to spend it with us. We’re surely going to miss you – we hear about it all the time!
