Island Girls – by Emily

The Lord has given me the privilege of being able to minister to lots of young girls on the island. A few years ago I was able to do a Bible Study with about 13 teenage girls. The Lord has led us to different places on the island and through stages of Micah growing I have had to change directions of ministry.

I still get to meet each week with one special young lady, Sandy. Sandy started out in that original bunch of girls and stood out as one who really wanted to grow and learn about the Lord. So through all the changes I felt the Lord calling me to invest my life in her. She is a great young lady!

She has passion and drive that I don’t see very often in youth on this island. She is a Haitian girl , and although her life is not easy, she is searching after the Lord to know Him more.

Each Thursday I pick her up after school and she comes back to our house. We are doing a study right now on Hannah. I have to say that even though the study was written for teenagers, I am learning so much. Sandy comes full of questions and does her own studies throughout the week. I love her heart and desire to do make the right choices and follow God! After our study we make dinner together.

It’s been really fun to get to teach her how to make different dishes! We all eat dinner together then we all drive to JC and drop her off. I love meeting every week with Sandy! Please pray for her. I know the Lord has great plans for her life!

Another girl, Valencia, who I have had the privilege to teach in the first Bible Study here a few years ago is in need of prayers too. She is pregnant and her baby is due in November. I got to go to her baby shower a few weeks ago. It was a fun time, but I could see in her eyes that she was scared to have the baby. She has a long road ahead of her. The baby came as a surprise to her, but not to God. Pray that I can be an encouragement to her. She is another young girl that I know God has great plans for!
