Spiritual Emphasis Week

One of the special advantages Windermere High School has over and above the other high schools is that we are not simply interested in the student’s education and physical growth, but we are interested in their spiritual growth as well.

This past week we had Pastor Cranston Knowles from the Abundant Lift Church in Nassau come and preach to our students morning and afternoon. His theme for what we call Spiritual Emphasis Week was: Don’t Waste Your Life, and he used Mark 8:36-37 as his theme verses: “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”

Pastor Cranston has been a youth leader and pastor for many years, and he has a very expressive manner of keeping the students attention all through the many lectures. With dynamic speaking and hand gestures, stories, and expressive illustrations he was very captivating and made the topic of discipleship engaging and fun.

I personally enjoyed his exposition on Balaam. For all my personal study and Bible degrees, I somehow missed some amazing lessons from the life and errors of this wayward prophet. The danger of selfish living, even within ministry, is most often subtle and deadly; Pastor Cranston helped both the students and faculty/staff during this year’s spiritual emphasis.

We also had a student/faculty basketball game for the entire school. It was our first scrimmage with our new team, and I’m proud to say they did very good!

With sessions in the morning and afternoon, there was an abundance of teaching, and Pastor Cranston built the messages one on top of the next – working the student towards seeing that external conformity to Jesus is worthless, and that what He is really concerned about is their hearts. This is a message that must be frequently repeated, and I plan on re-emphasizing many of his points to my classes over the next few weeks. We are truly thankful for Pastor Cranston’s investment in Windermere as well as the opportunity to give our time and attention towards our spiritual development.
