I got trained this week on the teaching curriculum that we use at the Eleuthera Bible Training Center. The materials we use are from the Bible Training Centre for Pastors Manuals. It is a 10 course program that provides a comprehensive training equivalent to a foundational level Bible college or seminary.
This training basically enables me, with appropriate educational standards, to facilitate and teach the manuals to our students. I love these courses, which were written by a DTS graduate. They’re concisely comprehensive and serve in addition to learning curriculum as a future resource for reference and consultation.
The philosophy of education behind the teaching manuals is the model of the life long learner. Such that though there is extensive material, the goal is to immerse the student into such a myriad of topics that they may in the midst of study come to see the questions that they didn’t even know to ask.
Three of the goals of the curriculum are to:
Serve as a resource for future use by the students
At least briefly cover every topic
Bring to the student’s attention the topics they need to hone in on.
One major precept for the Bible Training Centre for Pastors is the use of contextualization. The position is that the curriculum communicates principles and concepts. It is the teacher’s responsibility to present the information in a manner that will allow the students to understand the concepts in their particular culture by using illustrations, examples, and analogies from that culture.
I’m excited to potentially teach and oversee the teaching of these materials to our Bahamian students. Proper Christian education is foundational to goal of both evangelism and discipleship, and it is a privilege to work towards that endeavor.
