A Week with Bob Johnson – and Happy Leap Day

Our North Texas Missions Director Bob Johnson made his first trip over to Eleuthera this past week. He has been a long time support of ours and been hearing about and praying for the ministry over here for years. This trip was a hands on experience whereby he won’t rely on “our word for it,” now he has seen the vision for himself.

We really made the most of our time with him for the week he was here, and he got the full Eleuthera experience. From cracking coconuts with your bare hands to Billy’s BBQ, we did it all. We also took him over the entire island from end to end: Preacher’s cave and Harbor Island, to the lighthouse and the Cape.

Bob said that he would miss the people and the Bahamian cooking. We had him trying every Bahamian delicacy: raw conch salad, chicken-foot souse, johnny-cakes, peas and rice, conch fritters, the conch Po-boy sandwich, grouper, and much more. But the people really make an impact on your heart.

He and our principal Ms. Gibson had a great fellowshipping and talking about the school and the future and developing a great relationship as NTM continues to explore how it can be a blessing to the school. Already, the team at NTM has put together a dozen+ “new” laptops to send over for our computer lab, and they’re looking to replace the office machines as well. And this is just a drop in the bucket compared to long term impact that the teams they send here will have.

We loved our time with Bob. We had one of the nicest days at the beach while he was here. Micah buried him up to his neck in sand and we had fun snorkeling around and enjoying the sun. I loved my time back in Dallas with Bob and it was such blessing to catch up and have those lunches with him like we used to.

We had some great conversations, and looking towards the future we were able to carve out a possible 5-10 year plan for strategic development of the school and necessary resources. During his time here we traveled down to the Island School to talk with their staff about implementing similar solutions for renewal energy and conservation, looking towards putting together influential programs to integrate students into thinking ecologically and globally in the 21st century. One things is for sure, the future is looking bright at Windermere and we are so thankful to have Bob and NTM with us, sending and supporting our ministry to these children.
