Valentine’s Day and Couples Conference

Recently Emily and I attended the 2nd annual Couple’s Conference Retreat at the Training Center, hosted by our good friends Wade and Tammy Weinburger. I’m so impressed with our friends for spearheading this event. There are very few venus available for an intentional open discussion concerning marriage and the responsibility of husbands and wives.

The keynote speaker was Rev. Bethel from Calvary Baptist Church in Nassau. He has years of experience training and equipping leaders in his church, but more specifically to his contribution in the conference are his years of marriage counseling and helping couples understand the work and energy needed for a committed marriage.

His lessons were 7 characteristics for men and 7 characteristics for women that make you a Biblical husband or wife. For the men, we were challenged to be #1 – Lovers, #2 Leaders, #3 Learners, #4 Loyal, #5 Priests, #6 Providers, #7 Protectors. His use of alliteration was helpful to remember the lessons. However, he did say that the Bible says, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”… I’m pretty sure that’s not in the Bible.

The 2nd day of the conference was a little more centered around sex, and the discussion is a little too… how should I say this… explicit, yeah, explicit. Nonetheless, we’re thankful for the Godly couples who committed to going to this conference. Tammy began the night by asking the men to describe their wives and what we’re thankful for. We then got a great meal, and all the men served their wives. It was a great chance to publicly praise God for our spouses and be challenged to love one another in a manner that makes sense to each other.

Valentine’s Day came yesterday and Emily and reminisced how 8 years ago we got engaged. It was a good day. Again she was baking cupcakes for Micah’s school and a beautiful Valentine’s cake for the teachers. She really outdoes herself with baking. She also left all kinds of little red hearts, cut out of construction paper, all around the house and made Micah a card with a stretchy inside that said, “I love you thissssssss much.”
