Easter and Aunt Colleen

Happy Resurrection Sunday… or Easter. Some people make the point of reminding the “bunny” and “chocolate egg” world, that this Spring-holiday is actually all about Jesus. This year we are blessed to spend it with my Great Aunt and Micah’s Great Great Aunt (and for all the fun they’ve been having together, I’d bet he’d add another “great”!).

Our time with Colleen has been awesome. She is so much fun, and can easily rival Micah for how much energy she has… seriously, I don’t know where she has so much energy! We just got back from having lunch at Sky Beach and the water was crazy cold (especially for us Bahamians), but there was Colleen seizing the day, and in the water she went shorts and all.

She made some promises to friends back home to do snorkeling, and cold as it has been (remember we’re talking 70’s here folks), she was in the water looking for starfish. And she found an enormous one!

She and Micah keep going on what they call “adventures,” which are pretty much her, picking up trash around the school, and Micah picking up sticks and acting like he is in charge. It was super special to spend Easter with Aunt Colleen. She helped with all the traditions and it just makes Easter so much more special to spend it with family.

There was the traditional Easter egg dying. Micah now remembers this from last year, but watching the dye dissolve in the liquid is cool every time. Emily and Colleen helped him make some super eggs and we’ve been eating them ever since.

Emily and Melissa and I all sang for Easter Sunday, and the church service was just great. In Bahamian fashion they asked Colleen to stand and introduce herself, which she wasn’t expecting, but she got to play a small role in the service anyways. After the music finished, I dismissed the children to children’s church with Emily, where they had a special craft day and after the service ended they had a small Easter egg hunt outside the church.

Speaking of Easter egg hunts, we had all the small group children over to the house at 4:00 for a giant Easter egg hunt, complete with Easter carrots… who knew!?

The kids all had a great time. It was a funny conclusion… seems the kids couldn’t find the eggs hidden even when they were in clear view, but at the end of the hunt, seems like we had more eggs than we started with!

After the festivities, we had a host of folks over to the house for an Easter feast! Emily spend 2 days prepping and cooking. She had a glazed ham and Bahamian mac and cheese (recipe from Spanish Wells) and a cheese cake and an Apple Pie (yes I capitalized that because it was soooo good!).

All the hoopla and celebration is only warranted because the reality of Easter proves we are no longer lost in our sins. Christ has risen indeed, and defeating death is the hope of every believer. We are so thankful this Easter for our family visiting and friends fellowshipping, but most of all for Christ paying a debt that He didn’t own, so that we no longer owe a debt we cannot pay.
