Our little 5 year old – by Emily

This past week we celebrated our little Micah turn 5. I can’t even explain the joy that the Lord has given us by giving us Micah. He is the biggest blessing to us! His birthday was so fun! He has been looking forward to turning 5 for months now. We started the celebrations back when PaPa and MeMe were here a few weeks ago, then this past weekend our dear friends Phil and Hilary Pinder came all the way from Spanish Wells to have a birthday lunch with us. They brought a huge cake just for Micah, and they brought a car and a book which Micah loves! I am grateful for the friends that the Lord has put in our lives, and I’m so thankful for those who love Micah. It’s hard sometimes to not be around family, but people like “Pops” and “Mama” Pinder make us feel very loved! Then Monday our other friends gave him a truck, which he had been having tons of fun with too!

The night before Micah’s birthday I was busy making cake pops and a cake, and I spent lot of time decorating the house for the next morning. I wanted Micah to wake up to tons of balloons and decorations. We blew up lots and lots of balloons, and I used the decorations I had from when I taught Kindergarten since we had an ocean theme.

I couldn’t sleep the whole night because I was so excited for Micah’s birthday! I couldn’t wait for him to wake up and see everything! He was so excited the day before his birthday. He asked if he could wake up early, before the sun rose, and wake us up. I couldn’t wait!!! I woke before him, but stayed in bed until he woke us up so I wouldn’t miss his excitement. He ran in and jumped on our bed yelling to get up!

It was THE BEST!!!! He was so excited that it was his birthday! We let him open his presents first thing. He got fun things from family, and we had fun watching him open everything! He got his first legos this year, and I got him a devotional book for us to do in the mornings. I am excited about it! He has been playing with all his new toys and wearing his new favorite shark shirt since then! He got new cool shoes, which he loves! He wore them to school and as soon as a little girl saw them she yelled “them shoes are SOLID!” He doesn’t want to get them dirty, or his shark shirt. It’s cute. He got a microphone and other fun things too! It was “THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!!!!!”

I made him a dolphin cake, which was super fun to make! And in the morning the dorm students came to the door and played a happy birthday video for him. He said school was fun. They had their cake pops and strawberry ice cream, and I gave out silly straws and Kool-aid for goodie bags. They were a hit!

After school we had a little party for Micah. Javannah, Javian, Levi, Isaac, and Julian came, and they all had lots of fun playing together. We had hot dogs and of course the dolphin cake. Micah was FULL of energy the whole day, but I was proud that he obeyed very well.

We have been talking to him about how there will be more responsibilities and more bigger-kids things when he turns five. He’s glad he’s five now, although his last day of being four was a day full of tension for him. He was sad that he would never be four again, but he was excited to be five. He almost cried and he was so glad!

We sure love our 5 year old! He’s so special! God is so good to us!
