Happy 4th of July

Although we usually find them, its rare to have Americans on the island for American holidays. Once again we were thrilled to have our as-traditional-as-it-can-be-on-an-island 4th of July celebration.

Emily always does a better job that I do with celebrations; she plans and collects decorative items, and might I add – makes pie!

This year we celebrated the 4th with the team from Union Park Baptist. We had a cookout with hotdogs and burgers and enough sides to feed like 45 people. Ryan Yates even cooked up a heaping helping of his famous “hot-wings!” I had the guitar out and we even tried our best at the national anthem and some traditional patriotic tunes. The kids got poppers, those little white tiny explosives that go pop when you throw then, everyone had a fun time.

Apart from a very windy day (food plates flipping all over), it was a festive gathering of Americans (and one Canadian) to share our common heritage of eating grilled food and blowing things up on July 4th.
