Bye-Bye Kindergarten! – by Emily

It is bitter-sweet when I say that Micah has graduated Kindergarten.  In the US he would have one more year in Kindergarten before heading to First Grade, but in the Bahamas, it’s different.  He is officially a First Grader now!  He loves his school, Tarpum Bay Elementary.  He had a great teacher this year!
His graduation was June 18th, and I could not have been prouder to watch him get his certificates and awards!  He got a certificate for the normal Kindergarten graduation, but he also got a trophy for being on the Honor Roll!  I am so proud!

He has learned a lot this year!  His teacher tells me that he is full of energy, and always needs to be doing something, but when it is time to sit down and do his work, he sits quietly and works hard until he’s done.  She says he’s the first to finish his work, but that it’s always great work and he does his best.  He is doing great with his reading and he’s learning to add.  We are working daily throughout the summer a little at a time on reading and math too.

In other Micah news, he’s, as Bahamians say, “growing like a fish!”  He’s unfortunately in a stage where he is very self-conscious.  He had a couple mean girls in his class at school who would make fun of him, and he’s always afraid that people will laugh at him for things.  He’s also afraid to try new things right now.  I am hoping that this is just a stage and praying daily for wisdom on how to teach him that God looks at the inside, not to outside, and that God can help him to be brave and give him courage to try new things.  We made a huge stride today in our first official swim lesson (me teaching him).  He finally was brave enough to put on his goggles and go under the water!!!  This was huge for him….praise the Lord!

He loves having the teams here this summer!  He has attached himself to one person on each team so far, then his little heart is broken at the end of the week when they have to leave.  Again, praying for wisdom in teaching him that the Lord will always be there and never leave him.  He is SUPER excited to see his PaPa, Uncle Jeremy, and Noah in a week!!!!  Yeah!

We are extremely proud of our energetic, cuddly little boy!  He is a huge blessing to us!  The Lord is GOOD!
