Bibles for Students + Spiritual Emphasis

Each Fall and Spring we host a week at school called “Spiritual Emphasis.” This is in line with our calling as a Christian School. Each year we work to bring in a dynamic Bahamian speaker to address spirituality and following Christ with the students.

This year we’ve done something a little different.

As I look back to my own spiritual development, I can clearly draw a line towards maturity beginning with my first personal Bible. This was a Bible that I purchased with my own money, I remember going to the Christian bookstore and finding the exact one, size shape and color. I remember the weight of it and the smell of its cleanly pressed pages. It was this Bible that I carried with me and continually returned back to in my discovery of God’s mission throughout the centuries.

From this perspective and with the help of missionaries Ryan and Melissa Yates, Windermere is offering all the students the chance to purchase their very own Bible; some for the first time ever! The Yates worked to pick out a variety of NIV bibles with designer covers, clasps, and colors. Then for only $20 the students could choose the style of their liking. It was two weeks ago that 5 large boxes arrived from Amazon. I could help but smile at the spiritual potential contained within those boxes and what that might mean for the future spiritual growth for the owners of these new Bibles.

This year’s Spiritual Emphasis was run by Dr. Adams from Nassau. We’ve had him speak at the school in years past, and his topics are very engaging to the students. After his sessions the student have some time to participate in some friendly competition. We renewed last year’s flag-football tournament, although some of the children chose to relax. For those who played it was some exciting kickoff returns, lateral passes, fumbles, and ankle breaking fake-outs. Everyone had a great time.

Keep us in your prayers as we work towards leading our students to Christ. I believe that much of the work we do at WHS is akin to a farmer plowing up rocky ground and preparing the soil to receive seed. Its our prayer that these new Bibles will aid in that process.
