Lots to be thankful for – Third Annual Flunker Thanksgiving – by Emily

Thanksgiving was a little different this year. Since I am pregnant, I wasn’t sure if I could even cook the food! I was excited still to spend the day cooking and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. When the time came for Thanksgiving I was thankful that I could eat more food at that point. I made the whole dinner without being too nauseous!

Yeah! But, for some reason the power went off, then on, then off, then on again…and again and again and again the few days before Thanksgiving, and through the morning on Thanksgiving Day. And, our cable doesn’t work, still. So that meant no parade. I was super sad about this, and poor Ryan did everything in his power to get the parade for me. There were just no options left though.

So, after I finished crying about it (and the pie I ruined, and the water I spilled), I talked it over with the Lord and was reminded that Thanksgiving is about giving thanks, not the parade. I decided to go ahead and listen to Christmas music while I made dinner. This was hard for me because I usually have a rule – no Christmas music until after Santa comes in the parade. Then, suddenly, like an angel in the doorway, was my neighbor. She said that there may be a way that she could get the parade on my computer! And it worked! So I ended up being able to watch most of the parade after all. I am thankful that the Lord allowed me to do that! Thanks to our neighbors for helping!

My turkey came out great, and our friends came for the dinner in the evening. We had a great time! There was a ton of food! And we all took turns saying what we’re thankful for. The kids had fun playing and eating their turkey. It was a good Thanksgiving. It’s always sad for me to be away from my family on Thanksgiving, but I am thankful for great friends here in Eleuthera to share our lives with!

I am also super thankful for Agape Flights! They do a fundraiser every year to fly Thanksgiving dinners to all their missionaries. We got our turkey and many of our other fixings from them! They bless us every two weeks by bringing mail to Eleuthera. We are thankful for their service and faithfulness!

God sure has been good to us! We have so much to be thankful for!
