Each year we have a fund raising banquet here at the school. I have been talking for 2 years about reforming our banquet into an alumni reunion, but despite all my talk and planning, I have not been able to make the change. Nevertheless, we still held the banquet and sent out invitations.
I’m happy to report that this year’s banquet was even a little better than last years. We had a few more people attend although the overall attendance is still pretty dismal. We had pledges for almost $10,000, which is excellent and a couple hundred dollar have already come in.
I was personally very proud of our 11th graders who stepped up to volunteer at the banquet with serving tables. Everything else in conjunction with the event was completed with the cooperation of all our staff. Ryan and I fixed the sound system, Mr. Alipio did an outstanding job on all the decorations, all of the ladies set out the table and hall in full regalia, and our cooks knocked it out of the park.
Rachel, Melissa and I got to sing a special version of O Come All Ye Faithful, Mr. Bullard came to bless the dinner with his signature Bahamian folk music. Our keynote speaker was Mr. Thompson, and alumni who also has 2 of his children attending WHS. His message was in line with the banquet’s theme of looking forward, and he did a great job of encouraging us all to make our relationship with Christ our #1 focus as we move and look forward.
Even though it is a multi day commitment of work and extra preparation, it is also a labor of love to put together the WHS banquet. It my intention to eventually turn this event in to an alumni focused event, such that we can enlist the help of all of our past students to work towards recruitment for the future. In his heart a man make his plans, but the Lord directs his steps. – Proverbs 16:9
