Thanks to an unexpected gift from our supporters, we were able to travel home for Christmas and New Years during our 2 week school break. It has been just the best trip!
Kari and Jimmy made the trip up from Ohio and we were fortunate to spend a Christmas together with our whole family, something that hasn’t happened in over 3 years. Micah had such a fun time while he was home back in November but then Kari wasn’t home. He had about all he could desire in playing with Aunt Rere and Uncle Jimmy while they were here. We’re convinced that all Micah wants to do is wrestle, and he does make the time home very special.
Christmas morning was just like we always remembered it. Micah was up before it was light and he was running into all the rooms and announcing the presents under the tree. His excitement is just the best, and you can count that Emily caught Micah’s contagious energy. Jimmy’s father helped to organize a Skype call with Santa, and once again Micah was astounded to talk with the mythical-man, we couldn’t help but sit back and smile.
Under the tree, everyone got to open a pretty standard present from us for whenever the whole family is together, which was Nerf guns. Subsequently, we reenacted the epic Family-Nerf battles. Micah would hide under the bed and Rere’s gun continually jammed, but eventually it would everyone against Papa and somehow he’d still win!
We got to do all the wonderful things that you can only do in the Northwoods: sledding down the hill and off the roof, ice skating on the lake, throwing snowballs, ice fishing, riding the ATV, getting a load of wood, and all other kinds of freezing. You’d think that Micah’s warmblooded-Bahamian-blood would cause him to avoid the cold, but the opposite was true… he couldn’t get enough of the white fluffy snow.
We also got to meet the church’s new pastor and travel down to Great Grandma GG’s house for Christmas and New Years. Seeing all of our family again was one of the best blessings. We’re so grateful to the Lord for providing this opportunity, especially in light of family’s recent health issues. We’ll see if next year we can talk the whole family into coming to the Bahamas.
