Fair Day

With the challenges of a private school, we do our best to keep tuition costs at minimum. However, the bills do add up and without endowments or grants its difficult to keep education affordable (however I must make a point to say that our school is the most inexpensive private high school in the country). Therefore, to assist in defraying costs, we hold two fundraisers each year, and the most challenging one is the Spring Fair.

This year we had the benefit of having the assistance of the Cedarville Team to help man the booths and set up and tear down. Although they just arrived yesterday, they jumped right in to help and make the fair a success.

Last year we struggled to make any profit due to the terrible weather we faced. A cold front dropped in and we were blasted with rain. This year the skies couldn’t have been bluer. It was just lovely weather, and it paid off in that we sold through all of our meats. Wade and I ran the grill from 6:30am and we couldn’t keep any of the BBQ on there as it flew off to feed the hungry crowd.

The WHS boys had a basketball game scheduled during the fair, and if it has started on time we would have won due to Centrals best players showing up late. However, we lost. Then after the fair I was the auctioneer for the Fair’s auction. I think coaching was easier than pleasing the ravaging crowd in their clamoring for bottom dollar prices. I had to keep reminding them that it was a “fundraiser.”

At the end of it all, we make over 8 thousand dollars in the goal of assisting the school with its many challenges. We thank the Lord for the good cooperation from the staff, student and CU team – and especially the good weather.

Sorry no one took any pictures.
