Easter Weekend 2014 – by Emily

I love Easter, and I especially love having a little boy to teach about Easter! This year was fun with Micah. We started on Good Friday with our normal dying of Easter Eggs. We had a fun time! Micah is getting more creative as he gets older and wants to experiment with different colors for the eggs. My favorite part of Good Friday though was reading through the Jesus Bible with him about the crucifixion. We took his empty Easter Basket and went to the back of Windermere and had him fill his Easter Basket with rocks. He loves collecting rocks, so this was a fun activity for him! On the long walk back to our house his little arms got tired from carrying the basket of heavy rocks, and his daddy had to carry it for him, which was just what I was hoping for! When we got back to the house I had him take each rock and write a sin that he had done one each rock. It was perfect timing too because just before our activity he had disobeyed, so some sins were fresh in his mind. He took out each egg and wrote his sins on them in permanent marker and put them back in the basket. We got to talk about how the basket was too heavy, just like out sins, and we have to have our daddy, symbolizing Jesus, carry them for us, and how the marker won’t wash off, Jesus has to wash our sins clean. We read the story in the Bible then and talked more. It was a sweet time with Micah. Then we covered the basket of rocks with a red blanket symbolizing the blood of Christ and left it there. On Easter morning then he woke to find the red blanket was now white and instead of rocks in the basket there was a fun Easter basket. I’m thankful for my friend Megan who gave me the idea to do this with Micah this year. It helped him understand more from a five-year-old perspective.

On Easter morning Micah also woke up to Easter eggs hidden around the house, and along with his basket from us under the white blanket, he searched for a Easter Bag from Meme and Papa. He’s too smart though and found the bag right away! The eggs took him a little longer which was fun, and they were the Resurrection Eggs, so once he found all twelve we read the scriptures and opened each one to tell the Easter Story. After our hunt was church, which was great! They had anyone who wanted to come in front and share scripture, songs, and poems. Micah sang “Lord I Lift Your Name On High” all by himself and did great! I was proud! In the afternoon we had an Easter Egg hunt at Windermere for the kids again. This year we gave each kid a color to hunt for so everyone go the same number, The kids had a great time!

In the Bahamas Easter Monday is also a holiday. We went to Ten Bay where we met the rest of our church family for a sweet day of fellowship. Ryan started grilling chicken on the beach at 7 in the morning! It was worth it! We had a great Bahamian feast! Chicken, Mac and Cheese, Peas and Rice, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad….the works! The kids had an egg hunt on the beach, and we ended with a time of singing and prayer all together. Micah played the whole day with his friends, and we all had a great time! We are thankful for our church family here!

We had a great weekend celebrating the death and resurrection of our Lord! He is Risen! What a great joy to know that OUR GOD is not dead!
