Micah’s Birthday Party #1

Well as is the case with Micah’s birthday, this is only the first! Both Emily and Micah are on their way to the US to have the baby, but I’m so thankful that Emily decided to wait until after Micah’s birthday before they left. This means that April 23rd is Micah’s 6th birthday, and we were going to throw him a great party.

Of course there was going to be a cookout and presents and decorations, but the one thing that was a surprise for him was that we rented a bouncy house for him and his friends. I knew it was going to be fun, but I forgot how very much Micah loves to jump. Once the house was blown up, he could hardly leave it. I even got in it too and jumped around with him, it was super fun. More than that, 7th month pregnant mom got into the bouncy house – although we didn’t allow her to jump – she just wanted to see how fun it was.

The day started off with Micah finding the whole house decorated with balloons and “Happy Birthday” signs. Emily really does such a great job at making celebrations grand. Both Micah and Tag love balloons, so that was present enough. However we did have an actual present for him… Legos! (and man let me just say that Legos are such a ripoff…). This was the Lego castle that he had been wanting for a while, so we had a super fun time putting it all together.

Then around noon, all the friends started showing up for the party. Although we invited Micah’s whole 1st grade class, none of the showed up, likely because of the Easter holiday travel plans. So the party was mostly Windermere staff children and our neighbors. But the number was perfect as it created the perfect ratio of children to square footage in the bouncy house and I only had enough meat to grill up for everyone who came. Micah got some great presents from his friends like Jake and the Neverland Pirates and an entire big box of Legos (I have told you how expensive they are yet??!!).

Even though Micah is now six, he is still very sweet and he gives that endearing innocence that is so fleeting with children today. We hope to hold on to that as long as possible, and we’re looking forward to year “6” and all the challenges and joys that are coming. We just thank God for our little boy, who is going to have a big year in that he soon is going to be a new big brother. More to come on that soon.
