Thanksgiving – by Emily

I’m pretty sure I married superwoman. Somehow each year Emily manages to bake 4 pies, cook 2 turkeys, and all the side dishes, along with clean and dress the house for the holidays, as well as create a “Thanksgiving Carnival” for all the children! I’m exhausted just writing about! So, I’ll let Emily tell you the rest.

It’s that time of year again, when pumpkin spice and cinnamon aromas fill my house! I LOVE Fall! This year Micah and I made another Thanksgiving tree on his door, which Micah called “Micah’s tree of thanksgiving for God, family, and friends!” My favorite leaf that he added said “punks”, which actually was meant to say “pumpkins” but he couldn’t spell that. It was super cute! This year though his leaves included more big kids things like “grace” and “salvation.” I was a proud mommy to have my little boy thanking the Lord for such things!

This year for Thanksgiving we held our 5th annual Flunker Family American, Bahamian, Canadian Thanksgiving! We had 24 people over our tiny house once again! I cooked for a week and while my turkey turned out delicious, I have to say that the turkey that our neighbor smoked was AWESOME! Sadie’s favorite was the turkey pudding cups and mashed potatoes! She even ate them by herself with a spoon for the first time! Ryan’s favorite…it might be a toss up between the 7 pies and the smoked turkey!

We held our 2nd annual Thanksgiving Carnival this year before dinner too! This year we added a balloon dart game, which was the hit of the night! We also added a turkey shoot game where the kids shot marshmallows out of a homemade paper towel-balloon gun at turkeys! It was a fun time! The day was windy, but praise the Lord it was cool….the perfect temperature for a carnival! The kids had a great time, and I have to say I had a great time seeing the smiles on their faces and hearing their laughs!

This Thanksgiving was also super special to me because I got to spend the day with Sadie while I cooked!  She made my Thanksgiving SO fun!  She was so much fun to watch as she watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!  She would dance to the music and marvel at the balloons.  And when we had to take down her Sadie gates to set the tables up she was SOOOOOO excited to be free!  She would run as fast as she could and there was so much joy in her eyes, and her happy squealy scream!  It was the BEST! She’s my little turkey! I am so thankful for the Lord giving her to us!  She is a huge answer to prayer!

A Thanksgiving tradition that our family does is to go around the dinner table and say what we are thankful for. It was a sweet time of remembering all that God has done for us! I am daily overwhelmed by God’s grace and mercy in my life! He is so VERY GOOD! We have so much to be thankful for!
