Family for Valentines Day

Valentines day with Emily’s mom and dad was the story of the past weekend. Emily has been lamenting that we won’t be able to travel back to Ohio on our way back to Eleuthera in March, which means by default that she’s likely not going to get to see her family until May. Not seeing family frequenly is pretty normal for us, however, since we’ve transitioned by to the states we’ve been a bit more vulnerable to difficulties and there’s nothing that seems to help those moments of displacement than being around the familiarity of mom and dad. Needless to say, we were very thankful to Don and Karolyn for making the looooong journey from Ohio to the UP, in only for a couple of days.

Like the loving mom and dad that they are they brought with them little goodies for the kids and Valentine’s Day cards, (and from Aunt Barb too). Micah was all too eager to bust out the light sabers and start dueling with Grammy… not sure how Grammy felt about that, but I will say she’s a tough Jedi to beat. Don is as helpful as always, ready and willing to help take care of whatever needs to be done, and one thing he found occupying his time and attention was holding little Sadie and watching Micah’s favorites shows with him.

We were blessed to have them join us for church on Sunday and then out to dinner afterwards. Saturday was us over at my folks house, and Don was even out in the yard with Micah riding the snowmobile with temperatures making their way below 0! Karolyn spent the majority of the day slaving away with Emily in front of the oven as a super combo mother-daughter cooking baking machine! It was Emily’s Sunday for bringing the church treats and it also happened to be Valentines day, so she and Karolyn knocked it out of the park with their plates of treats.

We are so thankful for the short time we had with family, and only wish it could be longer. Sometimes it feels like the days are moving so slowly, and other times it feel like May will be here in no time. We will certainly be looking forward to seeing them again this Spring.
