One of the most significant weeks in the term for our Windermere students is our Spiritual Emphasis week. We are blessed again this year to have the students from Cedarville University come down after months of preparation to deliver their testimonies and challenge our young people to allow God to be the one who writes their story.
This concept of your testimony as being “God’s story” and not yours was a central theme in their presentations. And it is one that I feel is paramount in showing young people the nature of God’s presence in their lives. We do not so much live our lives and fit God in, but rather yield the entirety of our lives to Him and watch as He writes His story though our lives.
As the college students so capably do, they held our high schooler’s attention for 4 days of Spiritual Emphasis. On the last day of the sessions we had our annual Spring Community Clean up Day which was spearheaded by our SGA. I’m proud to report that once again the local community of Savannah Sound saw the servant spirit from our kids and received the blessing of lawns mowed, trash cleaned up, and windows washed.
The Cedarville team did an impressive job not only in their sessions with the students, but also in their ability to integrate games and activities into the breakout sessions and the week as a whole. One of the more memorable moments was when they had each of the students break into teams and run a scavenger hunt all though campus. They had to retrieve the most ridiculous of items and first one back with the whole list wins the prize. It was a lot of fun to watch out kids blow off some steam and with innocence of enthusiasm run around campus having fun for a change.
We as an administration and staff are indebted to Cedarville for their contraction to the school and annual partnering with us for the lives of our students and the testimony of Jesus Christ. It has been my enduring vision to see WHS become a mini-Cedarville, and each year that the University returns it feels like we get a little closer to that goal. A great big “thank you” to all the team members and their supporters for sending them on this trip. May God continue to bless our partnership in the gospel.
