PineappleMan 5K – by Emily

So I have had on my unofficial “bucket list” to run a 5K for a while now, and the perfect time finally arose when I heard about the PineappleMan 5K and Triathlon in Gregory Town. It happened to be when we were going to be in Eleuthera, and what better place to run a 5K right?

My goal going into it was to run the whole time without walking. I practiced with my friends Rachel and Jennie in the mornings running around Savannah Sound, and a few times running up Windermere Hill which wore me out fast! We knew that race day would be hotter and we would be running up hill a lot.

The morning of the race as we headed into Gregory Town I started to get nervous. But it ended up being super fun! We ran from Daddy Joe’s, over the Glass Window Bridge, to Whale Point and back. I personally think that of all the places in the world to run, there couldn’t be a more beautiful place than that! The Glass Window Bridge is one of my favorite spots on the island! And even though it was hard and I had to run uphill a lot, most of the time there was a smile on my face. I couldn’t help but think of the Lord’s goodness! He is awesome to have created a place so beautiful and blessed me with the opportunity to be there!

My goal for the race was not to win, but rather just to run the whole way and not walk, and by the grace of God I accomplished my goal! I ran, but at least I didn’t give up and walk! Praise the Lord!

Along with Rachel, Jennie, and I, the boys’ dorm parent, Ken, also competed! He was the fat-tire bike category for the triathlon! I am not up for a triathlon yet, maybe another 5K someday though. Micah even competed in the 400meter run with Mekenna and Keenan too! They were super cute and ran their little hearts out! Mekenna placed third and won a prize!

We all had a lot of fun! The race ended with some fresh Eleuthera Pineapple! There is no better pineapple in the world!
