The very fact of the matter is that we don’t get to see our families near enough. This past weekend the Flunker parents got to make the long trip down from the frigid north to sunny Dallas to spend some quality time with us.
It just so happened that this past weekend was my ordination into the Ministry from my church (more to come on that in a week or so). Well, Dad had a training session in San Antonio this same weekend and what perfect timing to also have Mom fly down and have Dad catch a Greyhound to spend this special time with Emily and me.
One highlight of their visit was actually a left-over from Christmas. After our cousin got a RC helicopter from Santa, we just had to have one too. We honestly spent more time flying that little helicopter around than using any other present (and we crashed it quite shortly there-after). So, Dad and I made our first purchase of the weekend at Target to get a 6 channel RC helicopter – SWEEEET (we’ve since crashed this one too!)
The next day we got to take a trip to the world-famous Dallas Aquarium. It was a lot of fun, and even reminded me of when I was a kid and we’d got to places like that as a family.
Really, the highlight of the trip was spending my ordination service with my family. I am very grateful for all the blessings the Lord has give us – family is not to be taken for granted. We missed having Kari here, but we diligently teleconferenced with her to watch the Packers loose… dang it!
Having to say “Goodbye” is such a good reminder to the brevity we have with our loved ones. If you have the chance, try to always include family with celebratory events – it makes the good even better (and sometimes they’ll even buy you helicopters)!
