Transit of Mercury

It just so happened that this, the next celestial conjunction between the sun, the earth, and Mercury happened while we are on the island! I have had the privilege of recounting on this website 2 previous transits and one was also from the shores of Eleuthera.

If we had been in the US, I would have had to get much more creative in finding a way to observe the transit of Mercury, but it worked out that my telescope was safely tucked away in our storage shed here on the island. So after dusting off the cobwebs and termites, and carting it over across the ferry to Spanish Wells.

Along with this astronomical event, there was a rare conjunction of Venus and Jupiter in the evening sky on the 24th. Along with the moons of Jupiter and glimmering Venus, we also got to point the telescope towards Saturn. Sadly, I didn’t have my DSLR to capture any images, but nonetheless enjoyed the chance to witness the beauty of God’s heavens with Micah.
