Thanksgiving with the Rankins

We have so many close friends here in the Bahamas, and a surprising number feel as close or closer than family! One of those families is the Rankins, in fact Julius and Robin are Sadie’s Godparents!

The tradition since year one in Savannah Sound has been celebrating Thanksgiving with the quintessential thanksgiving feast and although our “guest-list” has varied, it has always included the Rankins. Unfortunately, due to the ticket prices for travel, Emily and Sadie could only be here on the island at the beginning of November which means we would miss the normal Thursday banquet and had to substitute this past Thursday in place of our traditional meal with the Rankins.

Marvelously their family continues to grow, and it’s fun to see how our kids and theirs are tracking through the standard growing pains even though they’re now in different schools and different settings.

Although the meal may not have been turkey and stuffing (we used to also do “Taco-Tuesdays” with them), it was such a blessings to have them drive the long almost 2 hour trek and $40 ferry ride to visit with us before Emily and Sadie had to leave. Each year, as we give God thanks for the blessings in our lives, we never fail to thank him for such wonderful friends and those you can just “be yourself” around. Lord willing we trust that the circle will stay unbroken and we’ll have many more November reunions.
