Faith, Providence, and Gratitude

It has been a jumble of emotions again as we’ve returned to the Bahamas. Because of Covid it’s been 2 years since our last visit. And government precautions have created a few more hoops to jump through in order to get here. Even as our departure date drew closer it seemed like there were dozens of things that could go wrong and ruin our attempt to make it back.

One such snafu came as we were driving to the airport as we became aware that our travel agency had us booked on two different flights itineraries on the same day. After a couple of attempts of asking “speak to a representative” we finally resolved the flights and soon we were Bahamas bound again.

One of the things that has always stuck me in flying back to the Bahamas is out familiarity with the people of the Bahamas. In many ways it’s a familiarity that is familial; it so easy to feel at home with our friends from Eleuthera. As our trip back continued, it was this sense of family that made our time and travel very enjoyable.

As I tend to be a pessimistic traveler, I’m always expecting the worst, however, it seemed that as soon as the plane touched down we had opportunity after opportunity that made the trip easy. Perhaps the average traveler would just chalk this up to “traveling mercies” but for us it holds some spiritual meaning of God’s providence and provision.

We’d like to recognize and thank all those from church who have been praying for us and for safe travel. And to Stan and Carol Schrag for their kindness to pick us up from the airport and make the 90 minute drive back home in the dark and in the rain. We are thankful for the church in Spanish Wells and their eagerness to offer hospitality and generosity. Through all these individuals and many more experiences we thank our Lord who works and moves to accomplish His will in our lives. And we look forward to what is to come in our short return to the islands.
