Thousands of listeners – SOS Radio

Pastor Nanten is known on St. Martin as “the pastor” because he did something that no one else has ever done… he taught about God’s design for sex on the radio. After what was supposed to be a single interview, the phone at the SOS radio station started ringing off the hook with request for more teaching. Thus, began the the notoriety of Pastor Nanten charm, boldness, and disarming sense of humor that has made him an anticipated “regular” personality on the largest radio station dial on the island.

After my initial meeting with Pastor Nanten he invited me to take his afternoon slot and advertise the training that CMA offers over the airwaves. It was with a substantive amount of humble anxiety that I accepted, but after I sat down at the broadcast table and started sharing it felt like the Lord took a scary interview and made it a conversation between friends.

The host was a man named Fernander Clarke, and before the “on air” light lit up, he told me that this radio station was a secular broadcast and that there are many listeners who are both believers and unbelievers. As we got into the meat of the conversation, that reality was reflected in his line of questioning. He asked about my background, the training program, and then moved into some deeper questions about the sovereignty of God in government and the value of all peoples no matter their race or religion.

By the end of the program, pastor Nanten and I were able to share the message of good news, that God has a design for all peoples through His Son Jesus, and that the invitation is open to all to come and taste and see that the Lord is good.

This was one of the rarest experiences I’ve had as a missionary, and I’m so thankful that God gave me the opportunity to speak the message of the gospel with the listeners of 95.9 that afternoon. Special thanks to my friends pastor Nanten and Mr. Clarke for the privilege and it is my prayer that the Lord will keep the public engaged with a recognition of truth, a recognition that will lead to repentance and salvation for many.
