7.25.08 – We made it… well almost

I am so happy that we can now put the experience of moving in our memories, well almost in our memories.

It took us 4 days to travel from Dallas to Fort Lauderdale with the U-haul. Both our Associate Pastor Jeff and our Senior Pastor Chuck and his family came over to help us move and we seriously couldn’t have done without them. Once the truck was packed, it was “Hit the Road Jack!”

We have to say thank you to everyone who was praying for us during our travels, because seriously everything went off without a hitch (no pun intended). I had a 26ft truck pulling a 19ft trailer – the entire rig was longer than some semi-trucks. God was answering everyone’s prayers by keeping us safe and keeping the truck from breaking down (not to mention the huge crack in the tire; the leaking windshield; the oil light – on the last day; and the broken weather stripping)! And Emily did a fantastic jobfollowing the whole time, often with a screaming infant in the back seat (which means there were lots of stops to feed him along the way).

So, once we’re in FL we had to unload the U-haul. Talk about an experience worth forgetting. The dock guys assured me that we could fit everything in a 20ft container (everything from a 26ft truck mind you…). Well, after moving 90% of it everyone pretty much agreed that they should have listened to me to begin with and started with the larger container (so much for saving some money on shipping).

Even though there were some frustrating moments, all things considered, both our cars are packed, all our things are packed, and we made our flight over to the island. Now it will be both a waiting game and more legal forms / payment / procedures and taxes to receive that which we’ve shipped. Also we have some work permit challenges. So, we’re not quite out of the woods yet, but at least the distance move is done.

We will have more to update on soon, but we’re happy to announce that we’re praising the Lord for a safe move to the island. Living here is an entirely different challenge than working for a summer, and I’m afraid that I may not be adequately prepared. In that same fear, having anewborn is equally surprisingly challenging – so those would be our prayer requests.

Look for more update posts to come soon.
