10.29.08 – The Bug Plague

Ok, enough is enough… there just comes a point when there are so many bugs, you have to take pictures of them and post them on the internet.

Apparently, our settlement here on Eleuthera is experiencing some kind of infestation of the pesky little flies. Thankfully they don’t bite or sting, but absolutely don’t let them fly in your eyes.

They’ve been so prevalent that some people driving down the road have mistaken their abundant splattering on the windshield as RAIN! And when you park your car the front bumper looks like your car grew a beard with all the bugs on it.

Every night the bugs come to the light inside our house, and it has driven Emily mad (as long as they’re not biting, I’m not terribly concerned). She has put wax into the window cracks and has duct-taped the door shut (looks like we’ll be staying in).

Thankfully, there’s been a bit of a cold front and today the bugs are starting to dwindle. But it has been epidemic, and again pretty much regionally centered around our settlement; north and south of us are “bug-free.”

So, we thinking about making an attraction for our Bible Training Center “Lord of the Flies.” Don’t come for the sandy beaches and sun, come experience the 11th Plague (seriously, I’m exaggerating a little, but it is pretty scary just the same).
