One of the major events during out time back in the US was our first annual CMA Staff Conference. While staff conferences have been held in the past, this time we as an organization are looking to make it something that happens repeatedly and involves everyone.
For many of us it was the first time to meet some of the missionaries. It was a sweet time of reunion for many and also exciting to finally put hugs and handshakes to voices.
The conference was basically focused on three major areas: to serve as a retreat for recharging batteries, to share testimonies and get to know everyone, and to collectively address our mission as an organization along with our short term and long term vision for the ministry.
The retreat was held at the Whitestone Inn in Tennessee. What amazing acres!Whitestone has a beautiful campus: the Inn itself is made up of multiple buildings and owned and operated by an ex-pastor, who offers significant discounts to missionaries.
There is a component to ministry that simply NEEDS face to face contact. I personally took away a greater sense of unity and appreciation for all the individuals who make up our mission team. Its one thing to talk on the phone, but its entirely different to actually be in the presence of like-minded co-workers in the Kingdom.
We are so thankful to be part of a ministry that values the needs, opinions, and thoughts of each individual. We learned a lot about the members of our team: common denominational backgrounds, crazy accents, and even hidden musical talents! Emily and I had a great time at the Staff Retreat/Conference, and we certainly look forward to the next one.
