As you may have heard there has been a massive earthquake in Haiti right near the capital city of Port a Prince. While we do not have any staff working in that region yet, we do know many people who have family and friends devastated by this disaster.
One of our national staff partners Kedesh Jerome, who works with us and serves on the island of St. Martin, has family that live near the capital. His most recent email simply asks for prayer as he has been unable to make any contact with his loved ones.
His words, “My father a Pastor in Haiti, and my Brother is also a Pastor. I have 2 sisters in Port-au-Prince where the devastation is mostly done. it is very difficult to be away at a moment like that and cannot hear from your relatives.”
We also have a very close Haitian pastor who is receiving the training in Rock Sound, Eleuthera. He frequently travels back to the country visiting family and doing ministry. He too is waiting for word on his loved ones, and fervently praying.
Many times he has told me that the reason for Haiti’s poor economic conditions, the destitution of their country and the constant need for welfare is because of their rejection of God. Haiti is steeped in paganism and occult practices. They need our prayers now more than ever.
May the Lord use devastation to reveal a love of sacrifice as His children reach out and give what they can to a people they’ve never met for the glory of His name – may this charity soften their hearts to the greatest act of charity known to man: God’s free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
