I am so excited right now… and equally exhausted (b/c its late and been a busy day), but I just have to write this article. You see, for so long I’ve had a vision for the churches on our island to unite together in cooperation and service for the community.Tonight that began.
One of the local pastors approached me a few weeks ago with a burden that the Lord had given him. In the wake of the devastation in Haiti, he wanted to get all the pastors together in our settlement and begin a Christian Council of-sorts for our little neighborhood.
I told him I was enthusiastically supportive and said that I would do whatever it takes to see this become a reality. You see, in our Bible Training Classes at the Center we have pastors and church leaders representing many different denominations, and there is an amazing sense of love and fellowship – but that spirit of cooperation and brotherly love is many times absent in the day to day.
So, tonight was our FIRST ever meeting. We elected officers and began the process of developing an organization dedicated to pursuing fellowship between denominations to specifically deal with issues in our community. I can’t even tell you how excited I am about this. We even got a name for our organization: James Cistern Community Ministry Team!
Tonight’s big plan was Cooperative Aid Relief to a neighboring island near Haiti called, Île de la Gonâve, we are calling it Operation La Gonave. We’ll be petitioning all the churches in central Eleuthera for supplies, and then flying them to this island.
Pray for this newly formed Team. I believe very strongly in both community involvement from the local church and interdenominational cooperation and fellowship, and I am committed do whatever I can to see the new partnership grow into everything God has planned for it to become!
