3.9.10 – Roswell Community Team

Roswell Community Church team has just left after a week of serving the community of James Cistern. Although my schedule didn’t allow me to spend as much time as I would have liked with this team, they were still a huge blessing and a gentle reminder of home and Christian service.

Roswell came down last year for the first time, and they were a fantastic team. Having not completely scared them away, they’re actually bringing down a couple of teams this year.

Last weeks team was very diverse with the full generational spectrum represented. Not only were they diverse in age, but we had some who have done many missions trips and some of whom this was their first.

During their week here they primarily served at our local settlement clinic in JC. The community here is working together to renovate our clinic, and the Training Center is working to partner with local churches to provide support and volunteers.

Roswell partnered with a church down the road (and perhaps the most popular church in town) Global Outreach. The team said they were so impressed with the local friendly attitude and the ease of which you can begin conversations and relationships with everyone.

By the end of the week the team commented on how the trip was meaningful to them, not only by what they had accomplished in service here, but also in how the Lord had bonded them to one another. With a place like Eleuthera where you’re away from internet and cell phones for a week, we hope that they can carry back to Georgia the spirit of their week in JC: to slow down and smile and wave to a stranger, and remember that a helping hand is sometimes the first step in effective evangelism.
