8.14.10 – The End of Summer Team Season

Our summer ended with a blast. Our final official summer team from the US was from Maranatha Church near West Palm, Florida. They were simply outstanding. Every now and then you get a team that feels more like friends and family than a foreign mission team, and this one felt like friends or family. Even our intern Katrina said it was her favorite team of the whole summer.

Simply put we are extremely blessed to receive such undeserved love from this team that come down. At every gas station stop they were inside asking if they could get me a drink or anything – I drank more Coconut Water soda during this last team than in the entire summer.

Not only were they a lot of fun, but they were very engaging to our ministry down here on Eleuthera. I had some fantastic discussions with their leaders on theology and personal expression of love for Christ in our world. They have some amazing testimonies, and I was extremely grateful for their questions and interest in conversation.

The team was a youth team, and they were the best. They hosted a VBS for 5 days and it was the largest of the summer: almost 60 kids! The team was well prepared, self-motivated, others-centered, servant leaders. With the kids they were engaging and they kept the fun non-stop while all along looking for moments for speaking truth and love and sharing the hope they’ve been given.

Towards the end of the trip they invited us to come stay with them sometime in the future at their church. We are definitely going to take them up on that offer. We so enjoyed this final team of the summer, and they were a very tangible reminder of the blessings we’ve been given. God it so good to us.

While we’ll have other teams before 2010 is out, this summer was one of those you don’t soon forget. We got to know some fantastic new interns, Ryan Boyer and Sarah Johnson (along with Katrina’s second summer). We saw some amazing teams come to serve, and it was our privilege to get to know them and serve as their hosts along with the Fastzkies this summer. We look forward to continuing to grow those relationships we’ve been given this summer 2010.
