We have had some of the best times at Halloween as a family, and Micah is really getting into the spirit of dressing up. We are fortunate because we think he looks just precious!
This year the ‘trick-or-treat’ day in Spanish Wells came on a Friday, the last night of class, but Brad offered to cover for me so that the whole family could walk around the island together. This year it seemed appropriate to dress Micah up as a Chicken.
There is a saying on a neighboring island, “Bring a chicken to Eleuthera,” well now we’re bringing one to Spanish Wells. Our friends Donald and Candy Sweeting were gracious enough to share their golf cart with us to drive around, and we spent the night with their kids Allen and Shena dressed up as Peter Pan and Wendy with their little 1 year old as Tinker Bell.
Micah loved his Chicken suit. Brad said he looked like (some) mascot, (from some team I can’t remember… college I think). We would ask Micah what sound does a chicken make, and he would say “Roo roo roo roo rooooo.”
In the past on Spanish Wells, Micah has been what they call a “Dollar Baby” where people would give him money instead of candy, but now he is definitely old enough to get lots of candy – we filled an entire pillowcase. But Emily does really good making sure that he knows that he has to share, and we end up giving a lot of candy away too.
The entire island community participates in Halloween, everyone dresses up and there are golf carts all over the place with some pretty fantastic traffic jams wherever there is a haunted house or a particularly good ‘treat’ spot. Micah held his own pretty good climbing in and out of that cart all night long.
One of the funniest things is that he doesn’t quite understand the concept of ‘trick-or-treat,’ he really thinks that Halloween is about seeing the inside of people’s houses. So in his curiosity, he bypasses the candy and heads straight into people’s homes, and we’re chasing after him. Its very cute, he doesn’t quite understand, but he means well.
Once again, Emily made the entire costume from scratch, and she did a superb job. We got lots of comments as to how cute he was; and the temperature was just right all night long, not too cold or hot to be in a chicken suit. I have been the mascot for many a franchise, perhaps this is the beginning of Micah following in my footsteps, and either way he was the cutest chicken on Eleuthera.
