Rock Sound – Graduation 2011

As with all of our graduations, this past Saturday was a reminder again as to the blessing God gives us to be working in the realm of making disciples through Theological Education and equipping.

After two years of driving 2 hours + each night for all eleven of our 2 week courses, we are finally finished! What a joy it has been to participate in opening God’s Word and looking at it night after night with our students. So, this weekend marks our 7th graduation in the life our ministry in the Caribbean.

The service was held late morning and lasted just over 2 hours. Paul Voss and Dave Hawkins flew in for the event and participated in the commencement service. This also marks the largest graduation we’ve ever had with 16 graduating students and another 6 receiving certificates but who are still in process for graduating.

I had the privilege of delivering the final challenge to the graduates, and spoke from 2 Peter 3:17-18, challenging them to guard that which has been entrusted to them and to continually grow in their love for Jesus Christ as their motivation for ministry.

My favorite part of the service was the students singing together, “Jesus Use Me.” It is a fantastic song, more like a prayer, to beseech the Lord to employ us as His servants wherever and whenever. Most of all I relished seeing this diverse body of students, from a myriad of denominational background, all singing in unison together – as one.

Graduation is not only a reminder of the joy we have to serve here, but it is most of all a celebration, not of ourselves, but of our Lord who gives us such a great privilege, and the One who is called the Author and Finisher of our faith. A Bahamian would say, “We’ve come this far by faith”… I would submit that rather “we’ve come this far by His grace.”

Thank to you all who have served and taught classes over the years, and helped to facilitate the training in Rock Sound through your prayers and support. May the Lord reap for you a harvest of righteousness as you continue to give joyfully.
