Brian Onken and NT Survey

We were blessed to have pastor and teacher Brian Onken once again join us in the classroom for our 5th class in JC: New Testament Survey. Over the decade of training, Brian has taught all but 1 of the New Testament Courses for all our school on each island!

Brian brings an extensive knowledge of not only the New Testament, but also of the cultural distinctiveness of the Caribbean which makes him a very competent teacher. Our students can instantly relate to him and identify with his illustrations and stories that help bring the ancient text into the modern day.

My favorite part of Brian’s teaching is his emphasis upon experiencing the text. He deals with each book in its appropriate background with each author’s individual style and thrust, but at the same time recognizes the continuity of scripture which has been penned by 1 Author.

This course challenged the students in their familiarity with what the NT “really” teaches contrasted to what can sometimes be falsely assumed it teaches.

I personally enjoyed my time visiting with Brian. And although it was an extremely busy 2 weeks, Brian has left a lasting impression not only with our students but also with myself. It is no doubt that we are and have been richly blessed to have him invest in so many of our students and graduates throughout the years… may there be many more.
