Trip to Wisconsin

Well during this time of transition, we have the opportunity and privledge to visit our supporters and supporting churches. So, we made sure to take some time both to see familiar faces and supporters, but perhaps more importantly spend some quality time with the Flunker Grandparents.

We have been the beneficiaries of seeing God confirm his calling and leading in our lives through the unending support of His people, and perhaps more tangibly during this trip, through the constant meeting of our various needs. The single most memorable has to be a Ford dealership donating a new van to us, and the Divine orchestration all the details for it to get transported to Eleuthera. However, whether it was big things like the new van or our church increasing their support or small things like constant provision for daily needs, we have routinely seen the goodness of God’s lovingkindness as we seek to serve him as missionaries in Eleuthera.

But home is always home. And it was so wonderful to be back in the northwoods. I spent a day and a half sawing wood lumber with Dad. I spent a week building a new website for church. I spent hours on the golf course with Kari. And we even made sure there was time to catch a few fish. Personally, “home” takes on a special feel when you’re living “homeless.” While we wait to move into our new house and new position on the island we are somewhat estranged from the familiar. But the sights and sounds and smells of home settle the heart and provide a glimmer of the providence of God. You can travel great distances and traverse the wonders of creation, but home gives you a sense potential and permanence – 2 characteristics which are increasingly missing in our world.

Micah fell in love with Meme’s cookies. I’m pretty sure he singlehandedly finished off 3 batches. But that’s what Grandmothers are for isn’t it? The weather was cold and fresh, which to the skin of those who’ve been living in the Caribbean is refreshing. We had cookouts and parties, I preached for Sunday morning church and drove the tractor. What a wonderful time home.
